Retaining Walls & Hardscape in Warminster & Bucks County

Sloped yards in Bucks County often need a retaining wall to create a usable flat area for a patio, hold back a bank along a driveway, or stop soil from washing toward the house. First Class Concrete builds block retaining walls, concrete walls, and the patios and steps that go with them — planned together so the grades, drainage, and finished look all work.

A wall is only as good as what is behind it

Retaining walls fail from water pressure, not from the soil alone. Every wall we build gets a compacted base, clean stone backfill, and drainage behind the wall so water has somewhere to go. Taller walls get geogrid reinforcement tied back into the slope so the wall stays plumb for the long haul.

We build segmental block walls — including EP Henry and similar systems — along with poured concrete walls where the design calls for it, and we match caps, colors, and textures to the house and the patio.

Walls, patios, and steps as one project

The best results come when the wall, the patio it supports, and the steps that connect the levels are planned together. We set all the elevations at the start so the finished patio sits at the right height off the door, the steps have consistent rises, and the water drains away from everything.

Smaller hardscape — seat walls, planter walls, and driveway edge walls — rounds out the project and is often added at the same time.

How it goes

From the first call to the final walk-through.

  1. Tell Chris about the job

Call or send the form with the property location, what is there now, approximate size, and a few photos if you have them.

  2. On-site estimate

Chris comes out, measures the area, checks access, grade, and drainage, and walks through options and finishes with you.

  3. Schedule and prep

Once the scope is agreed, we set a realistic date, handle removal and base prep, and set forms to the right slope and elevation.

  4. Pour, finish, walk-through

The crew pours and finishes the concrete, cuts control joints, cleans up the site, and walks the finished work with you.

FAQ

Retaining Walls questions before you call

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?

Many townships require a permit and sometimes an engineered design for walls over a certain height, often around four feet. We will tell you what your township requires.

What type of block do you use?

We work with segmental retaining wall systems from manufacturers like EP Henry and others, chosen to fit the look of the house and the height of the wall.

Can you fix a leaning or bulging retaining wall?

A wall that is leaning usually has a drainage or base problem. In most cases the right fix is to rebuild it correctly rather than patch it, and we will give you an honest assessment.

Can you build a patio on a sloped yard?

Yes. That is exactly what a retaining wall is for. We cut and fill to create the flat area, retain the slope with a wall, and pour the patio on a properly compacted base.
